Dear Parents, Caregivers, and Community Members,
I hope you are enjoying the joys of another Michigan summer.
I know you and many others are eager to learn more about what school will look like for our students when we return this fall.
While the Board and administration await guidance from different entities, I’d like for this message to give you a glimpse of our current thinking.
Understandably, there will be confusion between recommendations and mandates.
There are no mandates currently from entities with jurisdiction over our school district.
The Frankenmuth School District will comply with any mandates from governing entities such as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Saginaw County Health Department, and the Michigan High School Athletic Association. If mandates are issued in the future that apply to us, we will adhere to them.
At this time, FSD is not planning to independently require any face masks, social distancing, contact tracing or quarantine.
We will continue to take the health and safety of our students seriously and monitor the health status of our local community and respond appropriately.
We will also encourage health and wellness measures such as hand washing, monitoring for symptoms, and staying home when sick. Additionally, individuals who wish to continue to wear a face covering will be encouraged and supported in this choice.
Other changes that we anticipate include a traditional start time around 8:00 AM and end times near 3:00 PM, the use of the cafeterias for lunch time, and using our lockers once again. In other words, we intend to steadily work our way back to normal school routines and schedules.
We will monitor the situation closely and keep you informed of any changes that come our way.
Thank you – and I hope your summer continues to go well!
Dr. Jill Waliczek
Interim Superintendent
