You know what our Fall Sports Wrap-up needs?
A big bow!
I want to thank Kevin Schwedler for providing us with a super brief recap of our Eagles sports season.
I also thank all of our student-athletes, coaches, cheerleaders, game & meet workers, FSD staff, marching band members, parent boosters, and fans of all ages for for the role they all played in making this incredible list of accomplishments possible.
Before getting into Kevin’s quick summary of the season itself, allow me to share a few of Kevin’s other stats. Participation is the one of the cornerstones of the well-rounded learning experiences FSD strives to provide.
Now Here’s the Fall Sports 2022 Season Wrap-up
* And kudos to Junior Mary Richmond! (aka troublemaker)
Athletic Director Kevin Schwedler frequently kids FHS Cross- Country star Mary Richmond because of the dent she is making in the school athletic budget.
“Mary is the top runner in school history, breaking record after record since her freshman year,” Kevin points out. “So, I always joke with her about how she’s costing me money every time we need to update the record board.”
Most likely Kevin will be making more record board updates in the future as Mary will return as a senior to run cross-country next year.
She has been All-State her freshmen, sophomore, and junior years. And a year ago, she finished second in state at Division II.
This year, Mary won the Tri Valley Conference 8 and Tri Valley All Conference meet which featured 17 teams. She was also the Outstanding Female Athlete at the Greater Flint Championships, was named the Star of Stars at the Holly Festival of Races for top female athlete in all classes, won the Saginaw County Championship, won Regionals for the third straight year, and captured third at state.
“Best of all, Mary’s a great student,” said Kevin. “She earned All-Academic, All-State and she’s a wonderful unselfish teammate.”
“Mary doesn’t let her accomplishments go to her head,” said her coach Mike Snyder. “She’s a very humble person.”
Mary’s school record time currently stands at 17:56.0 and see has her sights set on running in college.
She started competing in cross country in seventh grade and she’s never looked back.
“I have loved participating in cross-country ever since,” Mary said. “The team feels like a part of my family.”
ALSO! The COMPETITIVE CHEER season takes place this winter and could use a few more athletes on team. If interested, please contact Coach Mackinley Prentice at mprentice@fmuthschools.com.
Wow!
Given all of the preparation, teamwork, and talent that went into our 2022 Fall Season Wrap-up – it’s difficult to find the words to close out today’s email.
While putting a red bow on this Wrap-up was a fitting beginning.
Perhaps a sincere bow to our student-athletes, coaches, and everyone else who supports FHS Athletics is some way is fitting, too!
Thank you for all YOU do as well!
