This week is Frankenmuth High School’s Homecoming!

I know announcing this fact makes me sound like “Captain Obvious” – but hey!

This is my first Homecoming week as an FSD Eagle!

So I have a good reason to be excited, right?

Therefore, much of the news today will touch upon some of our Homecoming traditions and events.

Before I get into what’s coming up with Homecoming – I need to share this important piece of news.

As many of you know, our principal at List Elementary, Dr. Jill Waliczek, will be leaving at the end of the month to be a professor at SVSU.

FSD will continue to accept applications for the List Principal position through Wednesday, Oct. 20.  Here is the link to the official job posting on our website.

I invite you to share this link with some of the tremendous teachers and school administrators who are in your circle of family and friends.

Now…onto HOMECOMING 2021!

First of all –
here’s one of the coolest traditions ever.

We will induct two new honorees in the FSD Hall of Fame at a luncheon on Friday.

Meet our 2021 Alumnus of the Year – Jaime Schmidt

Jaime graduated from FHS in 1996 and wow! As an entrepreneur, author, and business leader, Jaime has compiled an impressive list of accomplishments over the last two decades you’ll enjoy learning more about. Click here to go to the Hall of Fame section on our website and read more about Jaime.

Meet our 2021 Champion of Children – Jim VanDevelde

Did you know Jim was FSD’s first-ever full-time band director? Jim has quite a story to tell, for sure, but even more amazing is how Jim has continued to support our student musicians in the years after his retirement in 1993. Click here to go to the Hall of Fame section on our website to read more about Jim.

Congratulations to Jaime and Jim!

Friday night’s Homecoming will be special.
Join in the fun!

Here’s where and when!

  1. The Homecoming Parade will begin at 5:45 pm. You won’t be able to miss it if you’re on Genesee Street.

  2. Our Varsity Football Team’s match-up against Essexville Garber will be the televised Bally Sports High School Game of the Week. Wow! (Bally Sports was formerly known on TV as Fox Sports.)

And this means – that on top of all of our traditional Homecoming hoopla – there will a couple new activities taking place in the Stadium prior to the 7 pm kickoff.

  • Former Detroit Lion standout Herman Moore will be available to sign autographs and meet you at 6:30 pm. (He’ll then have to scoot off to the Bally Sport broadcast booth where he will be announcing the game for the TV audience.)

  • Bally Sports is also hosting a pre-game activity center for our elementary and middle school fans. This should be fun, too!

And at halftime, there’s even more!

Along with seeing the introduction of our 2021 Homecoming Court, you’ll get to see FHS senior defensive lineman Michael Carter conduct two songs with the FHS Marching Band.

This sure isn’t something you get the chance to see very often – where a starting lineman on the football team is also one of the drum majors helping to direct the marching band.

Michael is an incredibly talented student and athlete and yesterday’s story on MLive.com captured his busy schedule well.

In last week’s email I wrote about the Frankenmuth Way.

At the time, it never occurred to me that the Frankenmuth Way would apply to Homecoming Week as well!

But I’m sure glad it does!

And I hope you are, too.

Maybe I’ll see you at the game.

Go Eagles!
